60 lakh APL-1 card holders will be allocated free grains in April


* Cabinet decision on CM Rupani to be excluded from NFS



* The government's decision will now benefit about 30 million middle class people in the state



   Gujarat government has decided to provide free of cost to the 60 lakh APL-1 card holders in the state food security scheme under PDS in April.  Due to this, there will be a supply of food grains to about two and a half million people.  Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held a cabinet meeting through a video conference on Wednesday, announcing the decision.

    There were 1.10 crore card holders under PDS in the state earlier.  Out of which 65.40 lakh cardholders are covered in food security scheme.  The remaining 60 lakh card holders who have APL-1 cards.  But they didn't get the benefit of the plan.  In the circumstances of the current lockdown, the remaining 60 lakh cardholders will also get April's supply, including 10 kg of wheat, 3 kg of rice, 1 kg of pulses and 1 kg of sugar free.  Chief Minister Ashwini Kumar announced this on Wednesday that the middle class families will now get free supply as the CM decides to provide supply free to 60 lakh card holders of APL-1 in the cabinet in April.  Earlier, the state government had supplied 65.40 lakh cardholders in the early days of April.  In addition, 3.40 lakh card holders are being provided free of cost from the BPL list.  In addition, the state ration card workers are also being provided free foodgrains in April under the scheme.  The central government had earlier decided to distribute the cereals and sugar to the BPL card holders under the Food Security Scheme, in order to prevent the supply of food grains to the poor during the lockdown.  But now all the card holders will be provided with a fixed supply.
